Daniel, 2019 Camper

Daniel had a wonderful time at AI camp last year. He learned a lot of basketball skills with the pros and had so much fun with his friends. The coaches are world-class and great roles models. Alex and all the staff were simply amazing and accommodating. I am very grateful for this inspiring and amazing experience. We are coming back!

Who is Athlete Institute working with to build their health and safety protocols?

Athlete Institute is working in consultation with the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health unit, Ontario Basketball & Canada Basketball, as well as the Provincial and Federal COVID guidelines to ensure all procedures are followed in developing a safe environment for athletes, parents, and coaches. As protocols and restrictions are constantly evolving due to COVID-19, Athlete Institute is continually monitoring and updating our program rules and guidelines.

What are you doing at the facility to ensure safety?

To ensure the safety of all participants & coaches on the Athlete Institute campus we are keeping up with changing regulations from multiple governing bodies. These are all subject to change but thus far with our program we have not had an incident with covid. Listed below are a few of our main rules:

  • Campers may be required to get a COVID-19 test prior to arrival at camp. To be determined.
  • If the athlete is feeling any symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath) or their school/class is under quarantine, they are not permitted to attend any session.
  • The athlete's temperature will be checked upon entering the facility each day
  • Under current guidelines all athletes are socially distanced 2m (6ft) apart at all times in the facility.
  • All athletes must sanitize their hands prior to and after the session. It is recommended that they wash their hands prior to entering the facility and upon leaving.
  • Our court floor, backboards, rims and high touch surfaces (e.g. doors, walls) will be disinfected after each session.
The goal of many of our programs is to create a cohort of athletes that can create a COVID free environment where we can program more freely. For more information regarding our return to play policy, additional guidelines, and check-in procedures, please click here to find the full program rules and protocols. Note: Rules and protocols are subject to change in the future based on the constantly evolving conditions and guidelines regarding COVID-19.

What is the skill level requirement?

Our camps are ideal for players of all skill levels. Groups are divided by age and skill level, which are flexible and allow us to find the best situation for each camper. We offer personalized instruction that allows campers to improve specifically in the areas they need, whether they are new to the game or highly skilled.

Do I need to bring my own equipment?

Summer Academy Day: At this current moment, yes, to ensure the safety of all participants and staff, all day camp athletes must bring their own equipment (basketball, court shoes, etc.) and must be ready upon checking-in. Summer Academy Overnight: As this current moment, yes, overnight camp athletes will need to bring their own equipment such as a basketball. After every session all equipment and high touch surfaces will be disinfected. Note: Rules and protocols are subject to change in the future based on the constantly evolving conditions and guidelines regarding COVID-19.

Are masks mandatory?

Currently, masks are mandatory and are to be worn by facility staff, coaches, and athletes. They are required upon entering the facility so please make sure it is on. Until further notice, we have also made masks a requirement to be worn during the sessions. We are hopeful that we can eliminate this requirement. Note: Rules and protocols are subject to change in the future based on the constantly evolving conditions and guidelines regarding COVID-19.

Who will my child have interactions with throughout camp?

All athletes will remain within their camp group and not mingle with anyone outside of their designated cohort. This helps us and public health officials to contact trace more easily in the unlikely situation of a positive test for COVID-19.

Can I watch my child while they are at camp?

Unfortunately, at this time we are not allowing parents/guardians in the facility to watch. You may drop off your child, wait in your car, walk around the property, provided socially distanced, or come back to pick up the athlete at the end of each day. There may be times that we can stream for parents to view though. Note: Rules and protocols are subject to change in the future based on the constantly evolving conditions and guidelines regarding COVID-19.

Can I stay on the weekend if I am attending multiple weeks of camp?

Yes, you can stay over the weekend (Friday night to Sunday afternoon) if you are registered for multiple back to back weeks of camp. The price to stay on the weekend is $400 + HST. You will receive additional basketball instruction and there will be off-campus trips pending covid-19 restrictions.
